Printing problems

Cannot connect to the printer

If you cannot connect to the printer…

  1. Check that the printer is connected to the power supply.
  2. Check that the printer is turned on (with the rocker switch on the power supply)
  3. Check that the printer is connected to the network cable and that the green indicator light is on/blinking at the connector.
  4. Connect from the school computer (or via the faculty VPN).
  5. Make sure you are connecting to the correct address. Enter the entire address explicitly into the computer, including http://.
  6. Restart the printer by turning it off and on again (or by unplugging and plugging it back into the power supply).

If none of this helps, ask the instructor for help.

No plastic is being extruded from the extruder

If you have just inserted the filament, it takes a while for all the air to be pushed out of the extruder and the plastic to start being extruded.

Gently grasp the filament during extrusion and check by touch whether the filament is being pulled into the extruder without problems. If the filament is in place and is not going inside, it means the extruder is clogged.

  1. Check that the temperatures are set correctly.
  2. Try removing and reinserting the filament.

If nothing helps, the extruder needs to be cleaned. Call the instructor for assistance.

The printer is making a strange loud noise

Printers are generally very noisy. However, if you notice a very unusual noise during printing, don’t hesitate to call the instructor.

The printer is smoking / burning / visibly physically damaged

Immediately notify the instructor. Even if you are not sure if it’s a problem, call the instructor. It’s not enough to raise your hand, shout immediately. Printer fire is not an uncommon thing.
